Trips and Recreation

For Trips and Recreation, you MUST sign up for one Saturday event and one Sunday event.

The Red Sox game is first come, first served and does not count towards your required Trips and Recreation passport requirement.

Be at the meeting location AT LEAST 15 minutes prior to departure time for all events.

If you are attending any of the trips to Rhode Island, Canobie Lake Park, Blue Man Group, or Whale Watching, you have the option of receiving a Boxed Meal free of charge from Harvard, or you can purchase your own food during the trip. As you sign up for your trips, please select the option for a Boxed Meal if you would like to receive one for either of these trips.

Founded in 1901 as one of the American League's eight charter franchises, the Red Sox' home ballpark has been Fenway Park since 1912. Come to Fenway to see the Red Sox vs the Miami Marlins.

Newport, Rhode Island

Explore Newport by walking a 3.5-mile cliff walk on the edge of the sea, visiting the spectacular beaches, or by visiting mansions, including the Beakers, famous for being the grand Vanderbilt home, and Rosecliff, the site for the filming of The Great Gatsby.

Road To Revolution Freedom Trail

Location: Meet in front of Lowell House

Hear the extraordinary stories preserved in the meetinghouses, halls and homes of Boston’s oldest neighborhoods on this 2.5-mile walking tour. On this tour, the most in-depth Freedom Trail tour, you’ll see many historic landmarks as you go back in time. You’ll see King’s Chapel, the Old North Church, the Old State House, the site of the Boston Massacre, the Paul Revere House and more.

Duck Tour

Departing: 10:45am Back on Campus: 1:00pm

A W.W.II style amphibious landing vehicle, the Boston Duck Tour explores and narrates various historical and popular locations around Boston. Some sites include Beacon Hill, Bunker Hill, King’s Chapel, Cheers, and the Charles River.

Old Town Trolley Tour of Boston

Departing: 10:00 AM Back on Campus: 12:15 PM
Location: 34 Mount Auburn St (Mt Auburn St @ DeWolfe St)

This private bus tour covers all the major areas including Downtown, Beacon Hill, Back Bay, the Theater District, and the Waterfront District. Stand on the very ground where Samuel Adams, James Otis, and other revolutionary leaders urged their fellow colonials to fight for liberty in Faneuil Hall. See the spot where the Boston Massacre occurred just outside the Old State House. Walk along the Boston Harbor where the Redcoats marched ashore in 1768.

Boston Trip

Boston is one of the most historic cities in the United States. Known as the “Cradle of Modern America,” the birthplace of the American Revolution can still be felt at every cobblestone corner. Spend time roaming the city stopping at Fanueil Hall, Boston Commons, Acorn Street in Beacon Hill, and more. 

MIT Museum

Departing: 1:00 PM Back at Houses: 4:00 PM
Location: Lowell House

The MIT Museum , founded in 1971, is located at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in Cambridge, Massachusetts . It hosts collections of holography , technology-related artworks, artificial intelligence , architecture, robotics , maritime history , and the history of MIT . Its holography collection of 1800 pieces is the largest in the world, though not all of it is exhibited. As of 2019 , holographic art , and works by the kinetic artist Arthur Ganson are the two largest long-running displays.

Whale Watching

Explore the Stellwagen Bank Marin Sanctuary, a rich feeding ground for whales, dolphins, and sea birds. It is home to several kinds of large whales, including humpbacks finbacks, minkes, pilot whales and the critically endangered right whales.
